What is all the barefoot fuss?

There is an argument that the footwear industry has a lot to answer for in relation to causing the many injuries athletes and runners get. The argument states that the rigid soles and extra unnatural cushioning, changes the way the biomechanics of the foot works and so creates problems. Within the 28 bones of the feet and more than 100 ligaments holding the foot together is a very intricate feedback system to the brain, conveying sensory information about touch, joint position sense and in particular balance that restrictive footwear “dumbs down” over a period of time as our neuroplastic brain modifies according to the state of our sense organs. Neuroplastic changes in the brain that control how our body works are changing constantly and are entirely different within two weeks of making a sensory change.
