There is a lot that can be gleaned from some experiments that were done years ago within the prison system in the United States. They showed that once the sugary, white bread, fake mashed potatoe, standard American diet was removed and in place a healthy fresh fruit and vegetables and healthy meat/chicken fish, prepared by chefs diet was introduced to the prison there were significant changes that lasted as long as the diet was continued. The episodes of violent behaviour towards inmates and prison staff in one institution was reduced by around 70%. A second prison prior to changing the inmates diet had a recidivism statistic of around 95%, for the 7 years that this prison served vegan foods of real fresh fruits and vegetables the recidivism reduced to below 2%. These are astonishing figures and not only is it important to know for the general public as these prisoners ARE coming back out into our society, but if we were to exptrapolate this change onto our society think of the possible effects it may have on crime reduction, disorderly behaviour, mental health, chronic health conditions. There are so many reasons why governments should be considering evidence like this to reduce medicare costs, costs of crime, mental health, more social and civilised societies, as well as just being able to give a more genuine guideline to the general public about correct eating instead of blatantly incorrect information based on paid “science” or lobbied by BIG business.
